FAQ
What is dangerous connections?
Dangerous Connections is a Cold War FPS set in 1987.
You slip into the skin of American spy Dan Morris, nicknamed "The Moscow Mule", who specializes in operations behind the Iron Curtain.
The game will feature 15 levels, taking you to various fictional locations in the Soviet Union.
It is a single player game only and currently there's only a PC release planned.
The game is inspired by nineties console and PC FPS titles, with some of their great features and strengths, combined with some of the advantages of modern gaming. However, the focus of the game is on the sandbox principle, allowing you to discover the various locations on your own and figure out how to complete objectives by yourself, with only minor indications and little assistance.
The game will be completely in English, while the opponents use the languages spoken in the Soviet Union at the time. Of course the game will have subtitles in various languages.
Synopsis
According to espionage data, a dangerous situation is brewing in the Soviet Union: A new, experimental weapon of mass destruction is being developed. It has the potential to wipe out entire cities. As the weapon does not conform to any previously known convention, there is every indication that it is to be used. Data analysts therefore assume that, in addition to the damage to people and nature, a geopolitical catastrophe is also likely to result.
Putting the facts together, there must be a more complex story behind these plans than a purely terrorist attack.
The operational procedure must therefore be quick but equally careful.
What is the roadmap?
Currently five maps are completely done. Most of the music for these levels has been written and programmed as well.
Simultaneously all the main mechanics and features are being developed, programmed, implemented and optimized.
A fully functional and complete demo of the first level, showcasing all the features and elements of this game, is planned to be released for playtesting toward the end of 2024.
After the playtesting phase, feedback and suggestions will be reviewed and if deemed reasonable, implemented.
The whole game is planned to be released around 2026 or 2027 - depending on how development goes.
When and where will it be released?
The game is planned to be released on Steam for 35 dollars per copy.
Currently there are no plans for a console release.
What are some of the games features?
Over the course of the 15 missions, you will be given an array of weapons and gadgets. You will also be able to take control of various vehicles from the late eighties era.
The game features intro and outro cutscenes to push the plot forward and tell the characters stories. However within the levels there will be no elements, breaking the FPS immersion: No platforming, no quicktime events, no mid level cutscenes and no numerical indications of ammo or health.
The game is powered by the Unity engine, HDRP version 2022.3.4f1.
who is behind the development?
The project was initiated and is led by Yannick Zenhäusern. The composer, best known for his musical contributions to films (A Bond For Life, 007: I Only Need One, Year of Spies, Lion's Return), trailers, commercials as well as a couple of game and mod projects (GoldenEye: Source, Nightfire: Source, Stalker L.U.R.K. mod), has now taken the reins into its own hands, to realize his vision of his dream game.
He not only plays to his strengths in the area of composition and sound design, but also takes care of the creation of the enemy and NPC models, level designs as well as the story, mission objectives, characters and individual smaller technical aspects.
At his side for all technical matters is the experienced game developer Arsalan Arshad, as well as a small team of artists on an hourly basis.
What's the story behind this project?
Yannick Zenhäusern had a small but valuable career in composing for films and games. The latter, however, was not always to his satisfaction. Many projects, specifically about 6-7 of them in which he was involved were terminated, died out or were abandoned.
"I have always invested a lot of time, work and often money in each project over the last 18 years or so. After the last major project had to be discontinued due to a cease-and-desist order and the follow-up project was then also abandoned, I was left devastated after so many failed projects and it was clear to me that I finally had to take control and start my own project, so that something could finally be completed. Usually game projects have already filled the role of composer early on and I wanted to get involved in a project that was 100% in line with my wishes and ideas. That's why the only option for me was to make my own game", Yannick explains.
"Added to this is the fact that nowadays I often read and realize myself that gaming is no longer what it used to be. Firstly there aren't many spy games that take place in the Cold War era and when there are, they often come with the weaknesses and diseases of modern gaming. I simply want to create a game that satisfies the urge to play, gives the player control, tells an exciting story with interesting characters and, above all, is a game and not, as is so often the case today, an interactive movie that constantly leads you by the hand and unnaturally interrupts the organic gameplay. Oh and of course - no micro transactions!"
